Check out May’s Featured Artists on The Flash! As always, The Flash is bringing you the latest and greatest music from the South’s scene. From indie rock modern classics like Fake Empire to the more pop-infused sound of Bash! and everything in between.
You can find out more about the local acts being played on The Flash in May by clicking on our Featured Artists page. We’ve also compiled a “mixtape” on Spotify to give you your real music fix if you’re away from a radio.
I hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday and are not stuck anywhere near the bitter winter wind hitting the south coast today and that your stomachs are full of Sunday roast.
You will have noticed I’m sure that Southsea has been playing host to Icebreaker festival so for this weekend at least real music has very much lived in the pubs around Albert Road. Oh, what fun we all had! Some of the most exciting unsigned artists in the country all within half a mile of each other over 36 hours in Portsmouth. The only shame was that I could see only one act at a time. If you missed out, do not fret. You can still listen to many of the acts present through the Icebreaker website.
In the mean time, the website is continuing to improve with more content about our featured artists, information about the station, our new and improved gig guide and blog posts from Mark Wiseman.
The fundraising for our FM transmitter is continuing apace, but we’re not complacent and we still need your help. You can help us reach our goal by visiting our GoFundMe campaign, sharing it with your friends, sharing it with your enemies and if you can, throwing a couple of quid in the pot!
Most importantly though, don’t forget to listen to us! We broadcast great music across Greater Portsmouth through DAB and across the whole wide world through the wonders of the internet on TuneIn – directly through our site on the widget to the right or through your mobile/smart devices of any flavour.
If you’re a local artist or manager of a venue anywhere in the PO1 to PO22 post code areas (anywhere between Titchfield to the west through to Felpham to the east) you can have your events featured both here on the site and on air at The Flash, just e-mail the details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Watch this space, because we will soon be allowing venue owners and local artists the facility to add their events directly to the site!
SUNDAY EVENING JUKEBOX PARTY!
I have had some fantastic guests join me on my Sunday show, and I wish I had remembered to take photo’s from each of these occasions. It was fantastic to have Ben Dlugokecki and Lottie Anne Cuthbert in the studio yesterday evening to chat and perform for us live in the studio. Here are some pics from the occasion and thank you Paul Burton, and Lottie for supplying most of these.

Stuart Holmes in the studio telling us all about Park community school MUNCH . Find out all about the Christmas Day lunch at the school by visiting their website.
As a school we were aware of the food poverty that some of our community experience and were concerned our students were going hungry. This was reinforced when our local community told us how the food bank was consistently running out of food. We set up a community group to tackle food poverty in our area and in April 2017 MUNCH was born.
We successfully contacted external agencies for funding and MUNCH is now in operation supplying nutritious 2 course meals and activities for children and their families attending any Leigh Park school during the school holidays. Play equipment is provided, along with learning practitioners, who help our guests learn via play encouraging learning of vital maths and English skills. Our school nurse is also on hand, on a drop in basis for any concerns parents may have.
Our vision for MUNCH is to develop a sustainable local social enterprise by establishing a community food shop and café. This will provide volunteering and employment opportunities, as well as a casual meeting and eating venue to reduce social isolation – watch this space for more details.
We work in partnership with organisations who have excess food which otherwise would go into landfill . This helps to fill our MUNCH fridge in the Dickinson Centre. This is always fully stocked with emergency food for local families who are most in need.
We have expanded MUNCH to both Thursday nights and Sunday lunches. 2 course Sunday lunches start monthly from Sunday 25th March and Thursday nights meals start weekly from Thursday March 29th.
