DesperateBeauty In The Studio

Martins Post From FaceBook

I must say a big thank you to desperateBeauty for joining me on my Sunday evening Jukebox Party show. He   is a very talented multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and visual artist who performs as a one man band under the name desperateBeauty. I would like to thank him too for these kind words in his post about the occasion.

Here are Those Words:

Moi at The Flash On Air radio show 🎧 yesterday with Martin Kirby. I played two live songs, my first single Strategies, and a version of my next single Flower, recorded especially for the show.

Martin also premiered the release version of Flower 🌷 which is out to stream and download on all digital platforms on Jan 11 at 0:00am.

And I got to play some of my favourite songs, including My Bloody Valentine, Suzanne Vega and my unreleased ‘glitter.mix’ of Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’.

Both my singles are now in rotation at the station, so will get regular airplay from all their DJs ❤️.

Really enjoyed meeting Martin (he plyed me with lager which didn’t hurt) , these guys are all volunteers and clearly love what they do, and music in general. The DJs get to choose their own songs (unlike most commercial radio) and there are almost no ads. You can listen on DAB in the greater Portsmouth area, or online at

Hope to go back at some point (if you missed the show I have a recording)…

January Update

I hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday and are not stuck anywhere near the bitter winter wind hitting the south coast today and that your stomachs are full of Sunday roast.

You will have noticed I’m sure that Southsea has been playing host to Icebreaker festival so for this weekend at least real music has very much lived in the pubs around Albert Road. Oh, what fun we all had! Some of the most exciting unsigned artists in the country all within half a mile of each other over 36 hours in Portsmouth. The only shame was that I could see only one act at a time. If you missed out, do not fret. You can still listen to many of the acts present through the Icebreaker website.

In the mean time, the website is continuing to improve with more content about our featured artists, information about the station, our new and improved gig guide and blog posts from Mark Wiseman.

The fundraising for our FM transmitter is continuing apace, but we’re not complacent and we still need your help. You can help us reach our goal by visiting our GoFundMe campaign, sharing it with your friends, sharing it with your enemies and if you can, throwing a couple of quid in the pot!

Most importantly though, don’t forget to listen to us! We broadcast great music across Greater Portsmouth through DAB and across the whole wide world through the wonders of the internet on TuneIn – directly through our site on the widget to the right or through your mobile/smart devices of any flavour.

If you’re a local artist or manager of a venue anywhere in the PO1 to PO22 post code areas (anywhere between Titchfield to the west through to Felpham to the east) you can have your events featured both here on the site and on air at The Flash, just e-mail the details to

Watch this space, because we will soon be allowing venue owners and local artists the facility to add their events directly to the site!

Happy New Year from All the Team

Yet another exciting year ahead of us, thank you to all that have made it happen in 2018 and especially the Listeners. Yes its going to be a big year for the Flash, funds are trickling in from some great and generous supporters but we could do with a little more of a push and some help to reach our Target of £4000 to purchase the equipment and installation for FM. We have already put lots of time effort and Funds raised into getting the Licence go ahead, so we are half way there. To everyone with a connection to THE FLASH Happy New Year 2019
