Mandy grew up listening to London’s legendary pirate stations of the 1970s and by the early 80s found herself in the music scene with bands like Squeeze, Addicts and UK Subs. For a while she fronted her own Blondie style band whilst volunteering and presenting on various stations such as Radio Jackie, the famed United Biscuits Network and Bromley Sounds. Her music contacts led to her being on the audience guest list on Top of The Pops where her dancing and home dress making skills were noted by the shows choreographer, Flick Colby. This led to more appearances and even designing costumes for the shows dance troupe Legs and Co. However, without an equity card should could not be credited but she and her sister often featured on camera in close up and joining in the dance. She and her sister later made other TV and theatre appearances, such as spots on That’s Life, ITV Telethon and with Eamon Holmes and Sylvester McCoy.
In 1984 her enthusiasm and contacts took her to the relaunched Radio Caroline onboard Ross Revenge and she was offered on on-air position which would probably have made her the ships first female DJ. However, she did not find the idea of being the only female onboard a ship of men particularly appealing with no prospect of pay whilst she had a house to run and she declined the offer.
Real life then took over for 20 odd years until by chance she re-entered the radio world in 2007 by attending a radio academy celebration in London. From that event she met various contacts and quickly found herself as a regular crewmember on the Ross Revenge helping with painting and maintenance. She commenced broadcasting on numerous stations such as Radio Seagull, Maritime Radio in Greenwich, Coast and County in Scarborough, Radio Mi Amigo in Harwich and various appearances on other UK and European stations.
She joined The Flash in 2020 and quickly found her calling in the Sunday Night Jukebox Show at 7.00pm, handling your live requests. She also presents Afternoon Delights on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm and occasionally pops up elsewhere in the schedule.
