Ade Swatridge

Presenter Ade Swatridge

Ade has always had a love of radio, making up chart shows when very young and collecting 7” singles. In his early 20s he set up and ran a mobile disco for several years which got him into his love of presenting.

In his work career Ade was a graphic designer and marketing manager, and later expanded that to look after the brands of several top international telecom companies. Ade was able to apply his music knowledge and love of presenting within his career, making promotional videos for the business, and even being the voice of the IVR phone system for many clients!

Now recently retired, Ade has been creating music podcasts with a large following, but wanted to try his hand at radio presenting, something he regrets he never had the chance to do earlier. After a year with Gosport Hospital Radio, Ade joined The Flash and now presents two regular weekly shows.

Lunchtime Musicbox is live every Monday from 12-2pm, and features a wide mix of rock and pop chart hits and album tracks from all decades, ideal for lunchtime listening. Regular features include ‘Old, New, Borrowed & Blue’ where four tracks are played back-to-back, including a golden oldie, a brand new track, a cover version and any song or artist connected with the word ‘blue’. Ade also features the ‘Lunchtime Linktime’, where listeners are asked to find a connection between three tracks. ‘Vinyl Vault’ digs into Ade’s extensive LP collection and ‘The Big Finish’ ends the show with a rousing song worthy of any finale!

On Thursdays at 7.00pm, Ade presents Into The Unknown with his daughter Jo – one hour of live alternative sounds, featuring everything from indie rock, prog, folk, psychedelic and just about any other genre you can think of, pushing the boundaries and introducing listeners to forgotten tracks from classic artists plus some weird and wonderful new ones you might get to like! And there’s a twist! Ade doesn’t know what Jo is going to play and Jo has no idea what Ade is playing either – it’s always entertaining to hear how close musical tastes are (or aren’t) from one generation to the next. Into The Unknown is also on Wednesdays from 11pm to midnight.

Ade plays keyboards in local group Peludo Beach, a five-piece covers band playing a diverse range of hits from all decades. Jo also used to sing lead vocals in the band and is a keen gig-goer, having seen Ozzy’s final show and also Lady Gaga, Adam Ant, OMD, Metallica and Queens of the Stone Age in recent months.
