Ken Sim’s journey from the scenic market town of Hexham, Northumberland, to the vibrant airwaves of Hampshire, is a story of passion, innovation, and unwavering commitment to community and connection.
Born in Hexham, Ken grew up surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of Northumberland, where his love for music blossomed early. He spent his youth creating unforgettable moments as he ran a mobile disco in the late 1970s. His dedication to serving others led him to volunteer for the Tynedale Talking Newspaper for the blind—a pioneering effort to make news accessible—and hospital radio stations in both Northumberland and Portsmouth, where he brought smiles to countless listeners.
In 1984, Ken relocated to Hampshire, carving out an accomplished career in the regional newspaper industry. His leadership roles in sales and marketing at prominent publications like The Portsmouth News, The Plymouth Herald, and Western Morning News highlighted his talent for communication and his dedication to strengthening communities.
Ken’s commitment to digital inclusion shines brightly through his work on the HomeTech project at Chichester Cathedral, where he leads monthly workshops empowering individuals who face challenges navigating the digital world. His belief in the transformative power of technology reflects his forward-thinking approach to community service.
Joining The Flash radio station marked a new chapter in Ken’s story. After contributing promotional messages for Citizens Advice Havant—an organisation he has supported since 2017—Ken stepped behind the microphone, bringing his rich, eclectic taste in music to listeners twice a week. His favourite artists, including The Saw Doctors, Beautiful South, Barenaked Ladies, and T. Rex, mirror his dynamic and vibrant personality
Ken’s Monday morning breakfast show from 7.00 – 9.00am is a burst of energy to kickstart the week, while his Thursday program, Ken Sim Rocks…But Gently, from 9.00 – 11.00am, offers a soothing blend of classic hits and fresh new tracks. Through these shows, Ken not only entertains but also champions emerging artists, firmly believing that today’s new music is tomorrow’s legacy.
Whether inspiring others through his radio shows, leading digital inclusion workshops, or simply sharing his enthusiasm for life and music, Ken Sim exemplifies passion, community spirit, and the power of connection.
